Financial stability describes a state in which the financial system - including banks, markets, and financial infrastructure - can withstand shocks and continue performing its core functions without major disruption to the real economy. At its core, this means maintaining a system that can effectively channel savings into productive investment, allocate and price risk, facilitate payments, and support economic activity.
Financial stability does not imply that individual institutions never fail or that markets never experience volatility. Rather, it means that the financial system remains resilient enough to absorb disruptions and prevent problems from becoming widespread, undermining the provision of essential financial services or affecting the broader economy.
Financial instability can emerge when vulnerabilities build within the financial system and shocks are amplified through interconnected institutions, procyclical behaviour, and contagion channels. Overview
Data-driven decision-making (DDDM) is the practice of using evidence from data to guide organisational decisions rather than relying solely on instinct, habit, or anecdote. It does not replace professional judgement but instead provides a stronger evidence base for that judgement. In practice, it means routinely asking, "What does the data actually show?" before deciding what to do next and being willing to let the evidence influence the outcome.
Every organisation already generates data through sales transactions, customer interactions, operational processes, and financial reporting. DDDM turns that existing information into a consistent input for decision-making instead of allowing it to remain an underused by-product of day-to-day operations. When data becomes part of routine decision-making, organisations can identify patterns, evaluate performance, and respond to opportunities and risks with greater confidence.
